Tips on how to cook a RedBird turkey for Thanksgiving.

THE RIGHT SIZE BIRD

Plan on 1 1/2 pounds of (uncooked) turkey per person.

TURKEY TIPS

Cooking Stuffing: It is safer to cook stuffing in a separate baking dish but if stuffing inside the bird is what you prefer, pack it loosely. Stuffing should register at 165 degrees F with a thermometer before serving.

Roasting Temperature: Heat the oven or roaster to 325 degrees F (see charts below).

Check Temperature While Roasting: Insert thermometer into the deepest part of the thigh. The turkey is safe to eat once the temperature registers 165 degrees F.

Resting Time: Let turkey rest 20 minutes before carving.

Neck/Giblet Packet: Remove turkey neck and giblets packet before putting turkey in oven.

Plastic Leg Clamp: The plastic leg clamp may be left on during roasting as long as you are not deep frying your turkey. It is made of heat resistant nylon so it is safe at temperatures up to 500 degrees F.
