Red Bird Farms is an innovative
leader in providing Coloradans with high quality, fresh (never
frozen) chicken statewide. Over the years the name Red Bird
has become synonymous with quality.
The Red Bird story begins in
the 1940’s. Henry Gibson a trained meat cutter, who worked
for Lemcke’s Meat Market (in downtown Littleton, CO.) went
into the poultry business as a sideline. His sideline became
so large that Mr. Gibson gave up his position with Lemcke’s
and devoted all his energies to raising and processing chickens.
The name of the business was called Gibson’s Poultry. He supplied
5,000 to 10,000 fresh chickens each week to local markets
and had 30 employees. The development of this business was
one of the post-war success stories of Littleton.

The business changed hands after a tragic
train-auto accident took the lives of Mr. Gibson and his three
children. Ethan and Mary Adams, the brother and sister-in-law
of Mrs. Henry Gibson took over the business and changed the
name to Red Bird Farms. The Adams grew the business and moved
it from its location at 590 S. Lincoln Ave. (currently known
as Spotswood) to 4949 S. Vallejo in Littleton.

In 1980 the Adams sold Red Bird
to George’s Farms, a Chicken processor out of Springdale,
Arkansas. George’s retained the Red Bird name and in 1990
sold the business to the current owner Mareo Torito.
Owner-Mareo Torito
To guarantee truly fresh product,
Mareo pioneered the use of vacuum packaging to keep the chicken
fresh and unspoiled with longer refrigerated shelf life than
other chicken products in the supermarket. We deliver orders
overnight "store door" to groceries, restaurants
and butcher shops around the state. Over 200,000 pounds of
chicken per week move through our processing facility and
are distributed overnight to our customers. Our product line
includes boneless, skinless tray-packed fresh chicken breasts,
whole fryers, and bone-in breasts. A new line of convenience
products like stuffed and marinated chicken breasts and breast
strips are also available.
A strong, loyal base of Colorado
customers has rewarded Red Bird’s ongoing commitment to quality
and freshness. This steadily increasing demand for our products
has fueled the growth that led to the recent move to our new
home in Englewood. We look forward to serving you for many
years to come with quality, integrity and freshness.
